Orp chick

Her / his face flush was due to not being happy about pictures. Typically she / he has a softer color to her / his face. I should have no doubt in another month.

This is a very large chick but the typical no doubt characteristics aren’t obvious.

The lav orp reminds me of these 2 brothers (same age). One was easy to identify, but the other was a slow-maturing male. They shared the same parents & same hatch date, but the #2 boy always looked girlish.

I've also had my share of females with big wattles - like this blue one.

The kids even went as far as to dress her up in order for her to get in touch with her feminine side.

I also had this one that I didn't sell because I thought she was male. (No one wants males) At 4.5 weeks she had little red wattles and an emerging comb..

Here she was at about 15 weeks

No noticeable change in comb. No tail plumes like my other roo developed. Gold is staring to come in between wings but the are more quill than feathers.

Another week. This puts the chick between 12/14 weeks. Still gets beat up by our same age Dark Brahma pullet. I also have “Bubba” 1 year old Orp roo in the run with no issues.

I can't believe how tricky this one is. She's either a masculine hen or he's a feminine rooster.

I've had 4-6 wk old males with larger combs! I suppose this week he/she looks more feminine, but those wattles still scream male.
