Orphaned Jack rabbit kits, Help!

Hey everyone, my dog chased a jack rabbit through the yard, and the rabbit ran right into the fence post and died. Then later my dog found a nest with two jack rabbit kits. I've been watching youtube and I think I've got it,I just wanted you guys to reassure me that I'm doing the right things for taking care of them.

I'm also curious, one has a white strip on it's head and the other doesn't. could this help me tell boy/girl?

Years ago i raised some baby jackrabbits. It has been so long ago that I don't remember all that I did. I am sure you know this, but jackrabbits are hares, not rabbits. Unlike rabbits, it is unlikely that you can tame them. As I remember, I fed them rabbit pellets and hay. They did fine and I was able to release them.

I would take them to a wildlife rescue or someplace like that. It's very hard to raise wild animals. Also, are you sure it was the mother that died? I know that for wild rabbits the mothers leave for the majority and come back to feed them in the morning and evening.

The poster said the mother was killed. She won't be coming back. As for wildlife rehab, in a lot of areas one is not available. If you do a little research you can often figure out how to raise orphans. I have raised my share. Most made it.

I really wouldn't like to start an argument but the poster never stated anything that could mean it was the mother that died.
Yes there probably isn't many centers around but I would at least give the closest one you can find a call. They could probably tell you what to do with the kits and the best way to care for them till they are able to survive for themselves you also have to be careful where you do your research not everything on the internet is true.

The poster said the mother rabbit was chased by a dog and ran into a post and died. Not everything you read on the internet is true but you can find legitimate wildlife rehab sites if you look. I have. On occasion I have taken animals to rehab centers when I could find one and at one time or another I have also gotten advice from rehab sites, vets, and game wardens on how to raise orphans. In fact that is how I learned how to raise baby birds.

Even if the one that died wasn't the mother, I could not leave them there because my dog found them and dug up the burrow, and they were getting cold. One died last night, so now I only have 1, which could make it harder for the other one to survive because it is on it's own in the box.

And,the only rehab center nearby only takes cats,. So, I'm gonna have to do this myself.
