good for you! i think you handled the situation the best you could with what you had. i have recently been in some similar situations and sometimes you just have to make due with what you have. keep us updated on mama!

Sounds like she needs pain relief. You can give her ONE HALF of an 81 mg BABY ASPIRIN (so about 40 mg) once every THREE DAYS.
Pure aspirin, no substitutes.
Can pill by mouth or mix with food - if she's not eating right now, definitely give by mouth.
Aspirin stays in a cat's system longer than in humans, hence administer every 3 days instead of every 4 hours.

I've raised many kittens on this formula:

2 cups whole milk
1 tsp light corn syrup
pinch of salt
1 egg yolk

If the kittens stools become runny cut back on the corn syrup.

Good luck with them, and sorry about their mother.

Do NOT give the cat asprin, that will kill her.

I second the NO ASPRIN! Your not to give them IB, or Tylenol either!

It's not that they don't have any value, you have to remember that their lives are usually cut short by a variety of things. At 10 1/2 years old this is an extremely old barn cat. We are lucky to live on a dead end road so the traffic is light but, there are many hazards, prediators, cows, equipment (you don't always see them in hay fields), etc. About the time you put much money into them is when something happens to them.

I'll give an update on Mom later. I have extra to do for chores today and I'm already running late due to a visitor. I'm just waiting for my little one to settle good for her nap and then I'll go out for chores and first on the list is Momma. I may even see if she is up to nursing the little ones. I would imagine she is getting pretty full and if she will nurse them that will help.

The aspirin at the dose noted above is recommended by many veterinarians. Aspirin is toxic to cats at the wrong dose so some vets won't suggest it simply for fear of people messing up and giving the wrong dose. Have done cat rescue for over 20 years, worked with many vets, and this is the dose always recommended (sometimes as high as 81 mg is recommended but I stick with half that) Have used the 1/2 baby aspirin every 3 days umpteen times, never a problem.

If she is nursing (sounded like she might not have been) with the kittens in mind, I would opt instead for Rescue Remedy, an all natural Bach Flower Remedy available at health food stores and nowadays even many pharmacies. A couple of drops in water (dosage need not be precise) will offer a calming benefit and some people (including here on BYC) swear it also offers pain relief.

hi.. i'm sorry for all you have on your mind..hurt mommy cat and babies to care for....and i do understand about how expensive a vet is..(trust me!)..but if shes in pain..you MAY be able to use tylenol....BUT ..you have to ask a vet first(just call one..tell them your situation,..most vets will give help over the phone..)..some times it is ok..sometimes not..but definatley no aspirin...(thats what i've always been told)....is she in alot of pain?...do u think its bad enough that shes gonna die?..i know a vet isnt always necessary and they are so expensive..but if you really feel shes gonna die or is suffering...i dont think its to expensive to just have her put down..my thing is...i know a vet isnt always necessary...i do all kinds of home remedies myself...but if i have an animal in pain..we have to help that...pain is a horriable thing to endure..for a human..or cat..they just cant say..how much it hurts..so please..you may get upset with me..and i swear i mean no disrespect to you...if shes in pain..help her out with that...take care...you sound like you are doing a wonderful job...Wendy

Farmer Kitty
It's not that they don't have any value, you have to remember that their lives are usually cut short by a variety of things. At 10 1/2 years old this is an extremely old barn cat. I live on a farm and I am aware of the lives of barn cats. All of my farm cats are s/n/v. I take as good a care of them as my house cats. When they were sick or injured, there were rushed to the vet. That is what I mean of value.

I hope the momma kitty survives because I think she deserves better.
