Orphaned kittens...Sad news

good for you for being so strong and standing your ground!! Your animal is just that...YOUR animal, and only you can make decisions on how to care for it. I envy your strength and patience. I had a problem last week and asked for help, and "someone" got sooo rude with me, I was shocked!! I got all weepy and asked GReyfeilds to delete the whole thread...lol...MOST people here are extremely helpful though...and even with the few that arent...or at least come across as mean...this is still a very helpful site. I dont think I have asked for anymore help since that though...send me some of your strength vibes....lol...I'll send your kittens some stay healthy vibes!! Now that that person mentioned it, I think maybe most people get caught up in worry for the animal in question, and expects everyone to have the resources that they have, and dont realize how mean they sound.

I agree here to a certain extent, BUT what does patronizing Farmer Kitty have to do with helping her??? She was looking for support, not people being rude. She had to have loved her cat! Look how old her cat lived to be. You don't raise and take care of an animal for 10 years and then not have any love for it. Shame on those of you who were so rude!

Farmer Kitty: I'm happy to hear that your kittens are all doing well this morning!

There is a mix. I looked and told my daughters but, I don't remember for sure who was what! Right now that is not of great concern it won't matter they are staying regardless. Taking care of them is. Mom may have been 10 but, these are the only kittens I have from her. We had a couple others but, diese hit two years ago and took all but four of our oldest cats. Then her daughter from last year got hit on the road.

Good luck with your new kittens. Please have them vaccinated against future diseases so they can be healthy and have a fighting chance. My mom recently lost all her barn cats due to distemper and I had warned her to vaccinate but she didnt. I also hope that you choose to spay/neuter them too and I realize that is your choice. There are lots of places that have low cost clinics around.

This is something that is a must for anyone taking care of orphan kittens or puppies http://www.lilorphannannies.com/mm5/merchant.mvc

Farmerkitty-I'm so sorry to hear about your mother cats death, it's a good thing you found/knew where the kittens were. Good Luck with the kittens they are cute.

rooster0209- Those are cute bottles. I do have a setup for feeding that I have found very handy for us though.

They will be vacinated as are all my cats. Some of the vaccines I can get and do myself while others the vet has to do when she is out for herd health.

I'm glad they are doing well and I'm really sorry that so many feel the need to tell you how to handle your animals. I really didn't expect that sort of thing here. It's very patronizing and I'm sure you resent it to an extent. Of course, maybe some of the others aren't familiar with you and don't realize that you are an adult first of all, as some kids do post here, and that you are an experienced farmer who is well versed in routine veterinary care, just as most of us who have owned livestock are.

I feel like that needs to go on record considering some of the statements made here. She didn't just let the cat lay and die....she treated it. These kittens will be handled just fine. The only farmers who haven't had to raise a litter of somethings are the ones that believe in culling the weak. She can handle it.

My vet never comes out to vaccinate. He just has me pick up the shots for the cats, dogs, horses....and on and on. The only thing a vet ever does here is rabies because in SC rabies vac. has to be administered by a vet and he does that when he pulls our coggins on the horses. The rest of the vet care is done by us and sometimes, same as Kitty, we consult on the phone back and forth. Most farm owners have a personal relationship with their vets that are very different from what the average pet owner has. There is the occasional serious issue that has to be handled, but those are "years between" rare.

Have You tryed to find a lil bottle at a store and kitten formula to bottle feed them

I'm feeding them with a medicine droper. It works real well. Blacky and Luke both start drinking from it as soon as I put it up to their mouths. Frosty needs more incouragement and I have to gently squeeze a little into her mouth before she starts. Once they get a little older I will use a gerbil/hamster waterer and hang it in there for them. I have done this in the past and it works real well.

We had storms last night and the kittens did not like it. Every time we had a loud thunder boom they cried. More storms called for tonight. The poor things. They got baths this morning due to the fact that they had wet during the night on their own and were soaked. After thier baths they went into a shoe box and then into the temp. brooder I have in the house for the chicks I'm praying

will hatch anytime now. They kept nice and warm while they dried off. They I backed the temp in the brooder off until they were at about room temp and put them into their new clean box.
