Orphaned quail baby

I'm not sure about quail, but chickens are okay if the heat light is a red light. I'm sure they can see it, but I don't think it disrupts their sleep. They shouldn't have a normal, white light on 24/7, however.

Update: we now have two babies. We found a second one today. Very lethargic. We've been feeding him. He's started moving around a little more. But he's still really weak. Falls over a lot. The first baby is doing amazing. He gets excited when he hears our voice. Loves to be held. Thank you everyone for all the great advice. I'll let you know how it turns out. :)

That's wonderful news! Hope the sibling survives and then the two can be buddies.

Sibling? I must have missed that.

A regular light should be fine. I have never used a red light. I leave it on 24/7.

I'd expect you to jump right in asking questions in this situation.

I'm not sure if they are siblings. But they are almost the same size and found in roughly the same area.

I must have overlooked you getting the second one. Mom may have been killed. She may be calling to find then also. Must States don't slow you to intervene for wild life so careful who you call but your department of wildlife might be able to help.

Long story short, we ended up finding two more on the brink of death... After all was said and done... They started dying one by one. We are not sure what happened, but none of the babies made it. All 4 babies were named and buried. We have lots of pictures and videos of them when they were doing well. I wish I had better news. Thank you all for the advise and giving us something to work with. It's very much appreciated.

I'm really sorry to hear that.

Caring for quail can be difficult, they are very delicate, especially if they were already weakened by being orphaned out in the wild.
It is strange that you keep finding them. Does anyone keep quail near-by?

Could be why they were orphaned. Mom may had known they had bad genes & left. It may have also been that you were new to this & just not ready. It happens to most with good intentions at first. Some learn & try again being much more prepared the next time while others give up. I lost several of my first hatch.

At least you give them a chance they probably wouldn't have had without you.
