Eggs & Soup February of 2016 shortly after we adopted them. Eggs is named Eggs because she lays well & Soup (we call her Sue) is named Soup because she doesn't lay well at all. In fact, when Eggs finally went broody this year Soup stopped laying too & started crowing. Love my fluffy butts & plan on getting more Orpingtons next year.

We have ceramic eggs that we put in every time we took one out which is what got Eggs to finally settle on the nest but Soup is just a bit of a feather brain. Soup has been sitting on the edge of Eggs' nest box most days even though we set up a box for her with the ceramic eggs in it because there isn't enough room in 1 box for the two of them. She has sat on the nest a bit for a couple days so we'll see. It took Eggs 3 or 4 weeks of 50/50 on/off the nest before she finally settled to brood.

Our girls were completely free ranged before we got them so they aren't very good with being handled but Eggs seems to be an excellent foster mama & we will be handling the chicks she has hatched so they grow up accustomed to people & being handled.

Here's my flock and some of our chicks we hatched this year. The adults are a Blue Roo (Batman), a Gold Laced (Goldie) and 3 Buffs (Hope, Rose & Mama Jean). We're planning on keeping about 3 or 4 of the chicks. I think they are a great breed and have been excellent mamas.

I've got 14 little 10 weeks old Orps in blue, lavender and jubilee colors! I need to get updated photos of them. I hope my blue cockerel grows up to be as handsome as Pstock44's!!

@Pstock44 & @Peaches Lee what did your blue roo look like as a hatchling? The breeder we got our hatching eggs from was breeding orpingtons but jad just added them back to his general population so I am hoping some of the barnyard mix we got are orpingtons.
