Orpington Egg Size

I imagine your Buff Orpingtons are like mine, hatchery chicks. The hatcheries do not choose and cull their breeder stock to strongly conform to standards, such as laying the perfect Buff Orpington egg. I'm not sure that is high on the breeder's goals either since they are not judged on the eggs they lay. The hatcheries select them to lay a lot of eggs that hatch out into chickens that look a lot like Buff Orpingtons. This will give you a chicken that wil probably lay more eggs than the chickens you get from breeders who are concentrating on getting their chickens to conform to a lot of specific standards, not just laying a lot of eggs. That's not all bad if you want a lot of eggs and are not showing your chickens, but it does give you the inconsistency in what the eggs look like in size, shape, and color. You can see that inconsistency in this thread.

My Orpingtons lay smaller eggs than my Speckled Sussex and Australorp and they are a little lighter in color than yours, about like Cali's egg. Different Delaware lay different sized eggs. I guarantee you others on here will give you totally different results. The eggs do get larger over time and you can expect a big change in size after the first molt.
