Hi Ann,
They are looking very good!!! Are you having any luck getting the black hackle??? I'm thinking from images that we may need to take these guys back to a blackXglw cross (or in your case blackXbarnie) at some point to get that established...

OR (and do you know?)

Are the black neck feathers actually also laced and so appear black?

I am referring to the european birds which have major black coloring.

and.. is your guys tonails painted? or is that a trick of the camera that they appear perfectly black?

I'm still waiting for f1 to grow up and start laying... couple more months to go.

Thanks for the update!!!!!

Thank you so much. I have been following your project also and it appears to be coming along.

No on the hackles but it has not been a big concern of mine so far. I have been more concerned with getting the lacing and Orpington body type. I love the european birds and would die for one that looks like they do, however I think we are still years from seeing that perfect of a bird. The rooster also does not have the lacing on the wing area that you see in some of the pictures but he is still one pretty boy and I am happy with the progress.

The females are coming along also and no longer lay the darker eggs from the Barnevelder cross.

NO. I am not into painting toe nails. I am sure it's due to my camera and picture taking skills.

Keep us updated on your progress.

Hey Ann,
Thanks again for showing the pics. It has inspired me to hatch some f1s from my black roo & glw hens. I thought I was ready to rehome the GLWs, who have a new home come November. But seeing your pics & my own outcomes, that it is worth a try just to see. I just put them together last night so it'll be a couple weeks before I can start pulling eggs.

The best looking offspring I have is from the BlueXGLW so I'm now with renewed excitement to see this outcome.

Then we'll have some good idea of BlueXGlW, BuffXGLW, and BlackXGLW as well as your own combos.

Thanks again for the open information exchange... someday we will have these beauties!

added: not sure what I was thinking in my earlier post... the neck on the hens overseas are definitely laced... so they appear black from a distance... and the boys... are not laced there and so are very brightly colored.

this is all so exciting!

Dawn - I am so glad that my project has given you renewed inspiration for yours. There has been a lot of times over the years that I have asked myself if it is worth the trouble, just let someone else create them, but then I see the progress and continue on. I don't think a lot of people realize how much work goes into the project birds. Keep going on your project we will get some pretty nice birds soon.

Where have you been? How did the turkey eggs do for you? I bet you have been in the garden. You will have to make another visit and see the Golden boy yourself.
