What are these birds, breed wise? Also, are they pullets, as the name suggests?

I'd ask the help at the store, but you know....[IMG]

    Welcome!
I would suggest asking specifically if the chicks are sexed pullets - "Layer" breeds can be ordered and sold in straight run lots or in sexed lots, and you would want to be 100% which the store has done before assuming that they truly are sexed.

As to the breed - it could be a number of things. It could be a loose reference to Production Reds, or it could be merely a general term that is being applied to any one, or many, of the breeds that are production bred. If the staff isn't sure, ask what hatchery they use - you may be able to visit the hatchery site and suss out whether they have production labeled breeds or "package deals" and get a better idea of what you may have a chance to get out of the bin.

Have you seen them in the bins at the store and, if so, can you describe the chicks or, better still, get a photo so we can take a shot at helping you ID?
