Name: American Pit Bull Terrier
Experience Needed: NOT recommended for first time dog owners. They can be stubborn, and requite a lot of time and training, and are known for their tenacity. They have a strong desire to please their owners. RESEARCH the breed and check out the breeders and parents of the pup before picking one.
Origin: 19th century Europe, technically.
Diet: A Good Quality kibble. BEAWARE of BLOAT. This is a big health concern to "deep chested" breeds and is fatal if not treated immediately.
Temperament: Loyal, loving, and lots of fun!
Colors: Just about any
Environment: Not a "small spaces" dog. Requires a lot of exercise and room to run.
Family: Excellent family dog, however, known to have a high prey drive (with enough work, they can and will share their bed with cats, and can be trained to even ignore chickens)
Health Issues: Pits are known for a higher than average incidence of hip dysplasia, as well as allergies, eye problems, and congenital heart defects.
Life Expectancy: 12-14 years
