X2. After submission they are narrowed down to the highest quality pictures to go in the calendar. To have the best chance of getting in, they need to be in focus, have clean backgrounds, and have the subject in a decent pose. Plus, subject needs to be in condition. No filthy, ragged birds.

I see many images come through that could be winners if the photographer took a little more care with background.
