We finally got our first two button quail eggs. I would like to save them a few days and see if we get more and try to hatch them out. How do I store them for a few days waiting for more eggs to go in the incubator? Can they stay in the coop or do I need to gather them etc. where should I keep them, etc? I almost missed them in the coop they blended so well.

thanks

they can be stored, small pointy end down, in a cool drawer or box around 50 degrees if possible. Do not put in the fridge it is too cold. You can keep them for 7-10 days but do not expect those that are over 7 days to hatch...they can but might not...good luck.

Thanks, sounds like your very knowledgable. Do you know how to sex all white buttons. I am new to them. Had 3 (2 females and 1 male) and just got 3 more and two are white. I have 6 birds in a coop that is rated for 4 chickens and am still having some fighting going on. PS I had another egg today. Just one so far......so excited and want to try to hatch about 8-12. I have nest boxes but they are just laying on the ground so far.

All whites are harder to sex, still look for red feathers in the vent area or here is a link to vent sexing, bottom of page, but it depends on the age of your birds:

this site belongs to a member here, Stellar and is a good site for information.

The book "A Closer Look at "Button Quail"" by Jodi McDonald, is the button quail Bible, you have to buy it from her web site or look for one used: http://www.brackenridgeranch.com/index.html
Jodi is the person to learn from she has done "buttons" for years.

One item I must mention is that CBBQ do best in pairs not trios or groups this would take care of the fighting. And they are really bad at nesting...which you have found out.

Good Luck!
