Have you broken that egg open yet?

I noticed that each time my hen skipped a day her first couple of weeks I ended up with a double yolker.

I can just imagine what's in there!

Thanks guys...

I did not break the egg yet... I did break and use the 1st 3 from last week in a recipe.

I am starting to keep a close eye on the nest boxes, one of the pullets is starting to spend a part of her day there, and appears to be doing some "nest making" activity. Realistically, it could well be another month or more before I can expect eggs, however. . .

My brother buys fresh eggs from a farmer near his home in Virginia, and every one of them are double yolkers! I wish I knew how they managed that, or what kind of chickens they have, or what they feed or whatever the control factor is!

My teenage chooks are starting to really work out the pecking order, with frequent displays of dominance/ submission, by each and every member of the small flock. . . very amusing to watch, I suppose it means they are maturing?

Jen4 - I think you started something with the topic. I go my 12th egg today from the one hen I have laying. IT WAS HUGE! I weighed it and at it was almost 3 ounces! Extra Jumbo!
