Our adventures at Chateau Plumeau

my friend had 2 Serama hens - they kicked the dog out of his bed, stole his food out of the dish and played with his toys. Big chickens in a small package. Despite that, when they passed away - her dog searched the house for them. He missed their company.

It's going great together. Onyx was the first of the young ones to testtaste cucumber just now, and quickly decided that pecking it was too much trouble if you can just drink the juice from it 🤣
Friend has started on the coop-part, kiddo and me already filled the lower level with bathingsand and sown in some herbs and veggies for the foraging planter in the run. The missing roll of hardware cloth arrived today also, so building can continue this week.

Coop part. On the lower half (extension of the run) are the sheltering-walls on, and above a bit of 1 wall of the actual coop. Downstairs 1 half sandbath, (on picture)front part tiled for food and water.

No pics yet, it's stuffed with buildingmaterials now, but there's progress on the housing.
The hwc is on the sides (except the doors, those aren't made yet), and almost all the edges covered with wood to avoid hwc sticking out or gaps in the seams. most walls of the coop are up, again except the doors.
So now it's a matter of doors, floor of the coop, roofs & roof-hwc and coop-interior. YAY!

Regarding the serama's I'm starting to get quite sure about two being roo's; the brown and grey one.

So, update time.
Coop has roofing, run has its hwc roofing,, grazing-planter has its cover, stepping tiles and first plants are in the run.

Leghorns are down to the 2 girls staying.
Onyx (Ayam Cemani) is growing like crazy, now double the size of the Serama's, and finally getting some more decent feathering, though still pretty naked on some parts.
All the chicks got their names now;
> Leghorns; Jet & Riek (old fashioned Dutch names, after my great-aunts)
> Ayam Cemani; Onyx (gender neutral not knowing what (s)he is yet, and referring to the blackness)
> Serama's Elsa (white) & Anna (yellow > lightbrown) ...(yup, 'Frozen', thanks to son)
> Serama Tippy (black yellowface)....(name due to the white wingtips)
> Serama roo's Ranger (brown) and Scout (blue yellowface) ....(no real reasoning, besides a bit of the same theme for the two)

I'll make new chickpics tomorrow

With some temporary fix to seal the openings, the chicks had their first full day outside. Didn't deter the little ones from hopping on my lap when I sat down for pictures 😆
