After much waiting, I finally found a place to buy chicks that had several varieties in stock so that we could go look at and decide what we really wanted. The local tractor supply stores just weren't making it for me. Anyway, we bought six little girls... 2 Golden Comet, 2 RI Reds, 1 leghorn and 1 silver-laced wyandotte. They seem a bit worn out from the one-hour ride home, especially the leghorn, but we're hoping for good luck with them.
I had planned on using a MHP but my daughter bought a new reflector and red heat lamp just for us, so I guess this bunch will get reared the old way.

Tell you what, I'd sure like to be able to relax like some of these chicks appear to be able to do! When they're napping there are a couple that look like they got shot while running flat out and just fell all stretched out. I don't think they could be any longer. It worried me at first, but then after a sort nap they jump up and run around iike the others and look perfectly normal.
