Sounds like my red star. She is my only chicken right now (besides my 3 chicks), so she lives with my 4 ducks. I use a big dog house as shelter for them, and she will lay in there. She would rather get out of the pen and lay int the garage. Although, she does lay where I want her to now. Which is still in the garage, but with a cardboard box with some straw and a few store bought eggs (to keep her laying there). We actually moved about 6 months ago, and I was surprised to see a tiny little egg in with her and my other chicken (my sister dog got the other one so I don't have her any more). After that, I could not find her eggs, and figured she wasnt laying any. Although, later I went out side to see her laying under a tree. Of course, she had her little nest in there. There were 13 eggs. At this time it was pretty cold, so I looked throught the nest to see which ones looked good, there was 5/13 (the rest were either frozen, cracked, or cracked and frozen). After a while, it snowed in her nest, which caused her to stop laying in it. About a onth later I was looking through the garage and found 8 eggs there. I thought it was weird that she was laying her eggs on concrete, so I got a little box, filled it with straw, and waited. The next day, she had laid an egg in that, nest but then stopped laying there. A while later, my sister came over and told me that there were eggs in the nest. Of course, they were hers and she has been laying there ever since. Sorry, way off the subject. Anyways, your chicks are SOOO cuteThey're so cute!!Be prepared for some spunky hens! I have a Black Star named Blackie and she refuses to lay in the nest box. A garage is much more suitable.![]()
