Our Babies have arrived!!!!

forgot to post a comment on the pics I just posted. These are our new babies. They are my sons 4-H Black Sexlink babies.

The 1st pic is of our babies the day they were brought home 4/30/12

The 2nd pic is of our babies on their 3rd day with us 5/2/12. They are all really sweet babies and we love them:)

Be prepared for some spunky hens! I have a Black Star named Blackie and she refuses to lay in the nest box. A garage is much more suitable.

thank you, I think they our babies are adorable. I can see why you say "spunky hens." They are full of business already. We are keeping them in our garage now so they get lots of attention. There is one little girl that jump on your hand everytime you put your hand in there. She will just set. I think I have gotten attached to her a bit. I have heard this type of chicken arent that friendly :( I hope this isn't true?? They seem to be getting more use to us. My boys think they are the greatest thing ever.

I agree with you. She seems to be very friendly. I am just so proud of them. Me and the boys love to just set and watch them. Can't wait to see how they change and what they look like as they grow up

Sounds like my red star. She is my only chicken right now (besides my 3 chicks), so she lives with my 4 ducks. I use a big dog house as shelter for them, and she will lay in there. She would rather get out of the pen and lay int the garage. Although, she does lay where I want her to now. Which is still in the garage, but with a cardboard box with some straw and a few store bought eggs (to keep her laying there). We actually moved about 6 months ago, and I was surprised to see a tiny little egg in with her and my other chicken (my sister dog got the other one so I don't have her any more). After that, I could not find her eggs, and figured she wasnt laying any. Although, later I went out side to see her laying under a tree. Of course, she had her little nest in there. There were 13 eggs. At this time it was pretty cold, so I looked throught the nest to see which ones looked good, there was 5/13 (the rest were either frozen, cracked, or cracked and frozen). After a while, it snowed in her nest, which caused her to stop laying in it. About a onth later I was looking through the garage and found 8 eggs there. I thought it was weird that she was laying her eggs on concrete, so I got a little box, filled it with straw, and waited. The next day, she had laid an egg in that, nest but then stopped laying there. A while later, my sister came over and told me that there were eggs in the nest. Of course, they were hers and she has been laying there ever since. Sorry, way off the subject. Anyways, your chicks are SOOO cute :D

haha, thats ok. I love to hear chicken stories. Thank you for the comment. We really like our babies. :)
