Our Christmas

We have had a really topsy turvy month so far. It may happen on the 25 or the 26 or February...

If I can get the house decorated and something thawed... we will have venison and a turkey breast. I canned apple pie filling, so I see one of those in there somewhere. And all of the ladies and gentlemen over on the baking thread are keeping me bouncing from one baked good to another.
I also canned pumpkin, so I'll make something pumpkin-y. (any ideas will be appreciated.)

I think we will sit around and read the books that we always get for each other each year. The DS and DH are going to have to make me a book case for next Christmas. The books are starting to pile up on the floor.
I can not understand our reluctance to get rid of books. It is probably some sort of Psychiatric disorder.

The boy got the wii lego harry potter game, so I also see him and me playing that until new years or longer.

It isn't a big Christmas, It hasn't been since our son was born. It is more about being together. I sometimes feel that I miss extended family. But then I really think about it, and I get to spend Christmas with people who are 'nice' to each other, and small is just fine.

i totally wish we were just having a "small" gathering just my husband and kids..... no body else..... theres sooooo much drama, and we havent even touched on xmas eve (that's when it will be happen -drama that is- ).
just really wish some of my family (husbands really) would shut up about my animals. I dont want to make this thread about me or messy, i am getting irritated by my husbands sister because she says "my mini pot belly pigs (that i want to get) arent a "right" breed. and that they are inbreed ( i think that s the spelling) and wrong, and get like 300 pounds... i have sparked a family war, because i deleted her from facebook and her stupid comments. Some people dont get the "animal thing" i love my animals, i take care of them!!!

Going to DD's house Christmas Eve lunch. Then DH's family Christmas Day. Then back to DD's on the 26th for her Birthday party. Ahhh drama free! Merry Christmas everybody!

My dh is also working Christmas Eve and Christmas Day (12 long hour shifts). Hopefully, eldest dd and granddd will make it up over Donner Summit (from Sacramento to Reno) on Christmas Eve. She has to work a half day on 24th - weather looks ok for coming over the hill - but going back, she may have to leave on Christmas Day.

I work Thurs and Fri - we might work with a reduced staff on Friday - depends on the number of surgeries scheduled - yes they schedule surgeries on Christmas eve - and then of course are the emergency and emergent cases. If we have a reduced staff on Friday, I might have it off. Otherwise, I work 5:30-2pm. But, I'm off on Sat & Sun.

Well, MIL is here and has been since last Friday and my other 2 dds will be here of course.

We will get up at 4am to open presents on Christmas morning, so that dh will enjoy that part at least. He leaves at 6am for his shift. I will cook a spiral ham, mashed taters, corn, rolls, salad - my homemade cheesecake for dessert.

I will, of course, watch "It's a Wonderful Life" and cry at the end, of course.

All of my family is in Louisiana - I haven't had Christmas with them in 22 years - wish we could make it there one year - or they could come here...

Genny, that goose sounds good! We had a home raised turkey for Thanksgiving - wow what a difference!

Hope everyone enjoys their Christmas day - whatever day they have it on!

Merry Christmas!

This is the first year I won't see my daughter for Christmas (or her birthday, tomorrow). She and her hubby live in Texas and all of their money this year has gone to a fertility Dr., so far for nothin'. At least I have lots of minutes on my phone!

Hubby's daughters will be coming for Christmas, so that's a blessing, sort of.

We're having filet mignon and barbeque ribs, plus baked potatoes, green beans, garlic bread, and who knows what else!

Christmas eve is Chinese food- a family tradition, long story. Christmas day is for my wife and I. Pork loin, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, and biscuits. Just the two of us.

Sunday the kids invade with their kids. Lots of cold stuff and some Polish dishes easy pickings. Our non think Democrat family and our non think Republican family (key here being the non-think) will get along so that Daddy remains nice. Daddy does not like to see Mom get upset. Lots of games with the grandkids and all may stay over night. Hope the weather cooperates. Merry Christmas to you and yours. Sourland George.
