Our coop

Yeah... they are sure spoiled. We let them free range during the day. They love eating the bugs and greens around the yard. They ate all of my lettuce while I was gone for a few days!!!

Good job on the conversion

I would suggest a block across the lower part of the 'nests' though. To keep the eggs from rolling out. And you could put a bit more shavings in

Hey neighbor! That's a beautiful setup... we'll be over tomorrow to inspect!

Do you guys have much of a raccoon problem down there? Alamo, San Ramon, Danville, etc. have a lot of wooded areas, so I'm guessing you might.

Hopefully you don't have them and/or if you do they aren't too aggressive because, as already mentioned, chicken wire often won't do much more than just slow them down a little bit. Coons are super smart and strong and many on this forum can attest to them shredding right through chicken wire.

You could use hot wire, but probably don't want to with your girl around. What I would do is line it with 2x3 welded wire or just go with hardware cloth.

You may be okay with the chicken wire, but often better to be safe than sorry.

Please do keep us posted!

Hello!

Actually, not a single racoon so far. We have never seeing one around our home in the 5 years we've been here. Hopefully they will be safe. We do close the windows and door at night.

Thanks! Yeah, we're putting some blocks as a base. I put fresh wood shavings everyday. My chickens like to toss them out when they're getting comfortable
