Our Egg Hatching thread! Hatch: Nov. 7th (Hatching Video PG 57)

Have any of you ever had a chick make it out of its shell but then drag it around for a lengthy time? My last millie is hatched but has been dragging its shell for over an hour. I have only had this happen for a few minutes in the past. Poor lil chickie is very frustrated by it.

Current Count:

3/3 Mille Fleur D'Uccles hatched
4/5 Silkies pipped, the 5th one pipped and hatched in less than an hour.
3/11 Frizzles with small pips

If all 5 silkies complete hatch - that will be 100% hatch on those guys. Only 6 were shipped and one was broke upon arrival.

Kodiak, I'm in the middle of day 19 right now. I'm hoping my babies don't hatch until Friday night or Saturday so that I can be there.

Riocotesei, you got pips!!!! Awesome!!!!

pbj, sounds like your hatch is going well so far.

pbj - I had that happen once. I just took the chick out and quickly broke most of the shell off so that the piece the chick was dragging around was very small. It came off a couple of hours later and the chick was just fine.

right after I submitted that the silkie that was running around the bator helped her take care of it. They both tangled up in the shell and it broke off. I now have all four of them in the brooder.

You should see the 4 of them squaring off in the brooder already. The three millies pick on each other but then gang up on the silkie who is blue. How do they know they are different breeds? 5 minutes later though the silkie was asleep with his head on the back of the *oldest* millie.

I went home at lunch and peeked throuh the tiny little window in the incubator. I've found that if I use a flashlight and turn the lid, I can see all the eggs without having to open the lid.

Nothing was moving but I thought I was hearing something so I put my ear on the lid of the incubator. I'm sure I heard what sounded like tiny little feet scratching against the inside of an egg. I hope! I hope!

I'm just glad my husband didn't find me that way. I was standing in the laundry room, bent over at the waist, ear pressed up agains the top of the incubator, holding my breath. I'm sure he would have thought I finally went 'round the bend and broke out the white coats. It's a sickness, I tell ya!
