Our Egg Hatching thread! Hatch: Nov. 7th (Hatching Video PG 57)

Well, I did end up getting up at 3am, so I popped them into the bator at that point. Ended up staying up for a few hours to make sure the temperature settled back to the right number before hitting the hay again. Now I'm back up and waiting for the sun to rise before I finish up the smaller coop today.

Whee!

(now if I could just get over the sinus infection I'd have a lot more energy to do all the stuff I've gotta get done!)

I'm all right with that! I told my mom last night I think the extra excitement in this for me is the whole hatching bit. I was addicted to the Pern novels when I was a kid. I

reading the parts about the dragons hatching out from their eggs. I would in fact go back and reread those sections over and over again.

Does anyone know how we add an image to our signature? I saw someone else with one of these guys and thought it would be neat to add to my sig.

Good luck to you! I ended up with one more cracked one that I noticed while candling last night. I'm going to think about it on the trip and I may just end up taking that one out just to be safe.

I'm in there with you guys. I have 3 eggs to hatch on November 1st and the rest are due Nov.7.

Currently sitting at 48 - but I am sure that number will go down in one week when I candle.

How are the rest of you doing with your clutches/eggs?

Mine are roasty-toasty in my bator. I've actually been a tad concerned about the temperatures.

The thermometer we got with the hova-bator is reading 98-99 consistantly, but the other thermometer that is apparently calibrated in-house to assure accuracy is telling me 41 celsius, which equates to 105.8 fahrenheit. It's also got a reading of 54-55% humidity. Which thermometer would you guys trust? I've lowered the temp just a bit, but I don't want to get too low either. Nobody ever seems to mention having trouble with the hova-bators here on BYC.

Here's an in-incubator pic!

Also wanted to share a pic of my youngest with the eggs after they had arrived at the house the other day.

She is a doll!
My Hova Bator seems to be doing ok - looks like I have the same one. I have had some minor temp fluctuations but I think it is because I ended up turning on the heat in the house. It's my humidity that seems to fluctuate more. When I had it in the basement this summer it didn't seem to be such a problem. I just didn't want it down there because the basement is unfinished and now that it is fall it gets chilly.

Thank you, pbjmaker!

Just checking in!

Well I couldn't stand it and really quick went in tonight to candle the eggs. (bad me!

I really am having a tough time figuring these out because of the shell color. There are some that obviously look like nothing is happening. They are fairly clear all the way around -- light passes through both the egg white and the yolk. I'd say I've got 3-4 like this. Then there is a bunch where the yolk area is dark-dark-dark. And misshapen. It seems to be bubbling outward and is not free-floating, but expanded to touch the shell all the way around the top portion of the egg. Is that a sign of growth, or of post office scrambles? A few eggs have veining that I can see!! And I see three distinct little lumps in separate eggs that don't really look like bloodspots, but maybe an embryo?

I wish I could see pictures of some eggs being candled day 1-21, with the large ends being held up (as all of mine are/were). All of the images I've seen online show the eggs on their side, so I'm boggled a bit by what all I am seeing. All of the internal masses are floating at the big top of the egg.
