Our Egg Hatching thread! Hatch: Nov. 7th (Hatching Video PG 57)

Removed one RIW egg due to weeping. Cracked it open to see if anything had been happening, and nothing. Looked like I was about to fry myself up an egg for dinner (but of course I just tossed it). Not sure if there was bacteria in it (which is what normally causes weeping, isn't it?), but I doubt it was even fertile. Now the egg count is down to 21. 7 RIWs and 14 Amer/EEs.

Neither my columbians nor my golden lakenvelder eggs seem to be developing. The columbian cochins are just totally scrambled I think - the air cells on several are nothing more than a bunch of tiny bubbles

I have 5 out of 6 silkie eggs from ak-bird-brain developing! Go Emmy Lou! The 6th one had hairline cracks all around the small end that I didn't notice at first. 4 out of the 8 Mille Fleur eggs that survived shipping seem to be doing well also.
That leaves my frizzles - I think I counted 14 to start and 13 are developing at this point. Dipsy Doodle always has good eggs!
I also popped an egg in from the Serama I just got. We will see if anything happens with that one

no it needs to be between 30 and 40 the egg have to evaporate some of its liquid or the chick will be to big, Also at that high of a humidity water will fill the air sac and when the chick pips through the membrane it will drown. on the 18th day you raise the humidity to 60 to 70. I run my humidity at 34 first eighteen days and 68 the last 3

use a paper towel to soak it up,When I first started hatching I had mine the same as you and could not figure out why the chicks were fully formed and pipped through the membrane and then died. Found out I drowned them because they drowned because my humidity was to high the first 18 days

I have set my nov 7 hatch doing a dry hatch. They say and hatcheries swear by it that you get 90 to 95 percent hatch rates with it. I will know nov 7th and if it is better rated then the regular way will tell you how it is done.

as far as the different reading on your themometors. I have 3 in my bator and I average them out so if one says101 and another 99 and another 102 I average it at 100.5

I've got the humidity down to about 40%, but I can't seem to get it much lower. I must have a humid house.

Thanks for the tips regarding the thermometers!

Here's to hoping my chicks don't drown!
