Our Egg Hatching thread! Hatch: Nov. 7th (Hatching Video PG 57)

I'm going to candle very soon

This hatch I'm trying the dry incuabation method.
Today is day...11... and my first candling is tonight.
I'll update soon

the dry hatch method is what i do now and it has raised my hatch rate up greatly. I never let my humidity go above 32 first 18 days, I dont add water until humidity drops to 25 and then only a teaspoon or two to bring it up to 32. Then on day 18 I raise my humity to 55 to 60 and keep it there. When the chicks start to hatch they raise it up above that.

Thanks jamie for explaining for me.

I candled, and heres my results:
Started with 34 eggs.
4 were infertile (doesn't count against hatch %)
6 were blood rings
1 is questionable that I'll keep in there a little longer.
I now have 24 left that look really good.

One is very jumbo maybe a double yolker, and it's developing!!!

For the record I have purebred Leghorns in there and some RIR/SLW/BA/Leghorn mix cooking. Whoo hoo!
So the highest hatch % I can get is 80% and that is, if the ones left over-- all hatch.

That is awesome, Riocotesei! I'm dry hatching the refrigerated eggies. I'll post in a different thread if and when any of those start developing. They'd be due to hatch Nov. 16th.

Guess what!?! I just added water to my incubator and I didn't candle! So there

One of has to have the will power for the rest of the gang!

I have two eggs that come out of the turner on Wednesday - think I will candle then.

Ok - here's my update - I've got 8 New Hampshire Reds and 4 BBS Orps with very strong embryos growing in them. I have 1 egg that I'm completely unsure of - looks like there's an embryo, but it just doesn't look right. 1 has a nice blood ring, and 2 are clear. So I've got 12 little ones that look good as of last night.

Kodiak, you could try putting your eggs in an egg carton to hold them still for hatching. Some people also make small circles out of pipe cleaners (one for each egg) and set the eggs in them on their sides.

I just realized earlier today that I need to reinstall my Easyshare software onto my computer so that I can put pics on here when my babies hatch. I've been without it for weeks now. . . . my gosh, I'd better get on that!

Oh, and by the way, it's all your fault! Every last one of you!!!! I've already candled twice, and I'm only on day 10! Shame, shame, shame!!!! I will not touch my eggs again until day 18. I will not touch my eggs again until day 18. I will not touch my eggs again until. . .

These next 8 days need to hurry up and go by

Oh, go ahead and candle - all of you!!! I did again tonight. I can't help myself! I'm out of control. I'm about to have a candling overdose, I'm sure. Ayyyyeeeeee!

The good thing is that I was able to confirm that all 9 babies are still happy and bouncing. The other one in question I'm still not sure of. The remaining three seem pretty obviously to have nothing, but I just can't seem to toss them yet. I guess I still have hope I'm just not seeing the chick yet!
