Further work on the coop and run.
I purchased a dog kennel that was originally 7 feet wide and 12 feet long. Extended it out to 15 1/2 feet by purchasing additional 1 3/8" pipe and couplers and fencing in only three sides. We've run wire on the bottom and hardware cloth three feet up the sides:
Attached the front frame of the run to the coop and, using the excellent idea posted by "Gemini Chick" we've started building the roof on the run. We're using 3/4" PVC pipe attached to the frame with brace rail clamps every three feet and cut to 7 1/2 feet to provide an arch, then running 36" wide hardware cloth along the top, fastened to the pipe with cable ties every six inches.
The idea is to roof the entire run with hardware cloth using the PVC "arch" pipe. Although we live in the city, we have lots of wildlife around here, including a family of owls, hawks and even a small red fox....not to mention raccoons, possums and snakes that come up from the creek on the other side of the privacy fence.
I think the "arched" roof is going to end up looking really cool!
Still have to add additional hardware cloth to the kennel door, finish attaching the run to the coop, finish details on the coop, etc. etc. etc.! At the end of each day as Bill and I pass the Naproxen bottle between us, we're curious as to see what the end result of all of this work will be..
