Our First Broody and Incubator Hatch: a Diary

Pics
Yesterday Ruby had the chick out all morning in the big yard. They spent quite a bit of time in the compost pile where there's shade.

This morning it came bursting out the pop door first, ran around in a few crazy circles chirping like it couldn't decide which way to go, then ran out to the big yard with one of the Nn's for scratch :gigRuby was 3 birds behind.
Their antics are adorable....

Look at that comb now! Ruby is starting to back off the mommy bit some. Today he came over to the food bowl and ate by himself with the Nn girls. Perched on the side of the bowl of course.

Hey, do you realize that you have finally actually called him a "he"? He's still feathering in slower than my pullet here that hatched after he did. Wait until he does his first crow. I busted up when his daddy Charley started doing his! I will still take Charlies crow over those higher pitched crows that the Australorp roo's had!

Me too! She hatched that one from one of my hatching egg's, and I'm still over here hatching more egg's trying to get one that's like it!

Thanks, he is pretty cute isn't he? He's exactly what I was hoping for in appearance so far. Let's hope he's also a nice little crower too!

The little dude is about 10 weeks in this pic. He's spending more time away from mom foraging. He was hanging out with one of the Nn girls over the weekend. He's STILL not fully feathered yet either so he's been snuggling up to mom at night still as it's been chilly.
