I candled all 3 brown eggs today before I put in the incubator. 2 I'm fairly sure I can see veins in, but 1 I'm not sure so I put it in anyway. It doesn't stink so...

I'm not worried I won't get chicks at all! I AM frustrated that I don't know what I'm seeing so all I can do is a sniff test and wait. That'll change over time I know. I'm taking pics though so I have them to refer back to.

I split her clutch just in case the heat gets to be too much. She needs to get the heck out of that nest.

Hoping things are going well and the heat subsides a bit. I'm in CA and wanting to order some chicks, but have to wait because of this absurd heat. Rooting for Ruby!

@igorsMistress You are going to love the little chicks that hatch out NN. Those little fluffy bobble looking head's on them are so cute!

Oh ok I used to think nn and turkens were 2 different breeds, but they are the same I first saw them 2 years ago at tsc

The Naked Neck Turkens are a breed, but it is also a gene. They can be bred with any other breed of chicken to create the NN (cross-breed) one's, some chicks will have the feathered necks, and some will have the bowties when you do the cross. They used the bantum sized NN's crossed to the silkies to create those "Showgirl Silkies" that are so hard to find. Some are crossing them with the other peacomb breeds, because they like the shorter combs, or for egg or feather color. For me, I like the straight comb breeds, and I am breeding mine for that type of comb. Oh, and these adult White NN's that I have are mixed with the White Breese.

They did not understand why I got all giddy and girly if I saw lines.
So, I printed this so they could tell me what to look for by the day of incubation. It helped.

They would say, "hey crazy lady, it is suppose to be moving is it moving?" And we would look together.

I had a Brodie hatch one winter, it was her first hatch. The chick hatched, then she got off the nest I went out to the coop and found that baby almost frozen solid. I stole a line from Greys Anatomy cupped it in my hands, and put it to my mouth, I kept saying, you are not dead, until you are warm and dead! Got it in the house warmed it up and that little bugger was just fine! We named it Aurara like the frozen princess He was a Beautiful Prince

So remember all is not always lost those chicks are pretty tough little critters. Watch the temps, but don't stress out enjoy the journey!
