Our First Broody and Incubator Hatch: a Diary

Had to look that one up...doesn't sound like fun. Will it cool things off?

Yes, usually a bit. The sun is blocked out and we get high winds. We were blessed with a gulley washer afterward. I was out at 0100 to make sure the coop still has a roof and it was much cooler than it has been overnight.

Is 'sand-blasting' and/or drifting a problem on your property?

Mild sand blasting when it's really bad, but we don't get it as much as the other side of the valley. More of a fine dust ahead of the storm that coats everything.
No drifting on our property, there's not enough open ground around us.

We candled eggs this morning. I'm not seeing any change to air cells in eggs 2 or 5 but they don't smell bad. Everyone is going under Ruby and we will see how things work out. Next update will be when we have chicks.

Some change much faster than others...can make it hard to adjust humidity...as long as they're close they'll be fine.

Can't wait to hear about peeps and pips and zips and pops....
.....course with a broody you have to wait to see fuzzball heads pop out.

We watched the news on tv last night and they said that just east of Glendale had wind's up to 75mph, plus hail. Trees fell down.
