Once I started cleaning it, the easy and fast conversion turned into a two month project with the rain here being a big hindrance.
We got a wooded house that was stained instead of painted so I sealed up the spaces between the boards and painted it with some leftover paint we had in the shed. I used Black Jack rubber coating on the floor, perches, nesting box and 8” up the wall. To make it easy to clean, I’m using boot trays under the perches.
Covered the windows with plexiglass to keep the wind and rain away from the girls and the space under the eaves are about 3.5-4” wide for ventilation. In the summer I will take the plexiglass off some of the windows if it gets too hot in there but being in the PNW not sure how that’ll play out.
We turned their old coop into a run but plan on building a bigger one in the spring. They spent 4-7 hours a day running around our yard anyway.
We have 3 Aquilla chickens. Any tips etc are always appreciated.
