Our first egg, and, how long do Ameraucanas take to start laying?

I have two hens a one roster. I have had the for 24 weeks now and was told they were a month old when I got them. Should I be worried that they are not laying eggs yet? I wad told they are easter egg chicken but I am not fully sure.

I have an Easter Egger, to buff Orpingtons and one Barred Rock. They are 23 weeks. The Barred Rock was showing signs and I knew she was going to probably be the first one to lay. Two days ago I got my first egg from her. I now have three eggs. It's so exciting to go out there and find the egg. I just wish she would lay it in her nesting box. She keeps climbing the ladder and going into the place where she roosts every night

I have Pune shavings in there and clean it out everyday. This is just one of those small chicken coops just big enough for 4 or 5 chickens. It has a nice nesting box downstairs but for some reason she likes it upstairs. I have a fake egg in the nesting box and she has been going in there and showing interest. Any suggestions......thanks

Congratulations with your first eggs!! I wish I could give you the answer, but I am a newbie too!! So far, my girls (5 of them are laying) are doing their job by laying in their nest boxes. I have 4 nest boxes and they seem to use all of them! I hope someone will answer to your question! Good luck!

Sweetie pie, I wish I had suggestions for you too. Like you, I have two fake eggs in my nesting boxes and the roosts are above the boxes. I guess I was lucky in that my girls just took to the boxes right away. I did tack up little curtains for privacy, perhaps that would help? Good luck!!!

Since I started this thread all of my older girls (save the Cochin) are laying, and two of my Easter Eggers are laying! One lays blue eggs while the other is laying very light cream-colored eggs. Those little treasures are so tasty and beautiful. I love having chickens!!!

We have 1 of 6 laying right now. Waiting for our 23 week old EE, 2 RIR, SLW, and GLW to start. But given the winter weather and that we are choosing not to light the coop- Who knows when it will be.

We got our first egg on Monday, we've had four so far. 1 out of 9 girls laying so far. They are all 24 weeks. We also haven't been adding light for them, we haven't decided if we want to or not, I really home they aren't laying because of that! I am very anxious. All but two have looked and acted ready to rock for a few weeks now!

Our BR has been laying for about a month. We get an egg every 2-3 days. In addition, we have gotten a few soft shells (usually on the same day as the BR egg- so I *think) someone else may be trying to start up. Has been about a week since the last soft shell, though. We are new to chickens- so I am still learning as I go- Thought maybe our experience could help shed a little light for you :)

I finally got my first and now my second eggs. I think it is my small Easter egg chicken "Vanilla" (my 9 year old son named her) as the eggs are a dark green. I hope my 2nd hen will start laying soon. Thanks to everyone for your posts. As these are my first "Back Yard Chickens," I read a lot of the post to help me take care of them and measure their growth, health and comfort.
