We got our first egg on Sunday morning. Our midnight majesty maran, Trudy laid it and my youngest son found her in the best box with it. She didn’t lay on Monday but she left us another egg today. I was hoping they might be darker. But I do love the speckles!! I am still waiting on my red laced blue Wyandotte to start laying. The breeder though she may lay first since she was the oldest in the flock, but she isn’t even showing signs of being ready to lay. I will try to be patient! Collecting eggs is so exciting! I added pics of Trudy (MMM) and Amber (RLBW).

It is so exciting to get the first eggs!! I can't wait for our first Montana flock.to lay!!!
My son could hardly contain his excitement! I cooked the two eggs today for my boys when they got home from school. My oldest son said “eggs taste so much better when they are from our own chickens!” Let’s hope he continues to feel that way! Once the ladies all get laying, we will have lots of eggs!

Congratulations!! So great! I can't wait for my kiddos to get the first eggs. They weren't born when I had my Ohio flock

Gonna be a while on that Wyandotte - if that's a recent photo she's not red at all. I believe they're slower to come into lay as they're more of a decorative bird rather than a layer type.

Some of mine took 7 months and are still crappy layers 😭 This is their egg with a bantam Polish’s lol. We have 18 layers, half are Wyandottes. We get 9-13 eggs a day. They’re pretty and fun birds though!

I have a hen that hatched at the end of January and is a cross between my WL roo and one of my BOs. She laid her first little (37 gram) egg 12 days ago at exactly 20 weeks of age, and has laid another nearly every day since, taking only 2 days off, for a total of 10 so far. They're getting a little bigger every time, though they're still small with today's being only 48 grams (about 1.7 oz). But I've got to admire her enthusiasm and work ethic in producing one every 28.8 hours on average.
