Our first hatch!

My 2 silky/cochin hens went broody on a few eggs. Only ONE of those eggs were theirs, the other 4 they stole from other nests before I could grab them, lol.

The first one hatched today. It's one from one of the red sexlinks.

When I candled them they all looked good. All but 1... Gonna check that one tomorrow. Don't need a rotten egg to pop. lol!!

Congrats on the hatch! I've pulled a genuinely rotten egg from the incubator about 2/3 weeks ago. It's rare that they actually blow up. I've had that happen once only and then the membrane managed to keep the contents in place, though the shell was a complete bust. I think I would've impressed the bomb squad that day, removing that mess from the nest! lol

I canceled all the eggs (with my iPhone's light, lol). I see the dark side on one side and a small clear "cap" on the other. So far, so good.
