Hey all,
We are new to raising chickens and to Backyard Chickens.com We have been reading on here a lot for awhile now but this is our first post. We have learned a lot from this site. Thanks to everyone!!

We bought 24 fertilized eggs 3 weeks ago and made an incubator out of an old cooler. We had a hard time regulating temperature and humidity so we didn't think we were going to have any success but we are happy....and excited to say we have had 3 leghorn cross and 2 Delaware hatch between yesterday and today. Both of us didn't get much sleep last night because we wanted to keep checking on them and watching (LOL)! We have one though that started to pip but I think it has died:( It pipped on the side....I would say a little more than half way down the egg (toward small end) yesterday morning so we moved it a little to the side and now it hasn't done any more pipping. I pulled just a little bit of the shell away today but I don't see any movement. I think we goofed when we moved it.

After we bought the eggs we got anxious and went to the feed store the next week and bought 10 one week old chicks...all Buff Orphs but one...not sure what kind it is. It was pale yellow but is feathering out white and has grey looking legs and feet. Any idea what kind this one may be? We lost 2 of these chicks in the first couple of days:( They were the two smallest ones. I am posting a couple of pics below of the 3 weeks olds and the new chicks that hatched yesterday and today.

I have read on here that the general rule is to take them out of the incubator after 24 hours. So this evening we are going to take out the two that hatched early evening yesterday..should we also go ahead and take out the ones that have hatched today or leave them in until tomorrow? Thanks in advance for any advice or help you can give:)

Do you have some that are still trying to hatch? If so, I would leave a couple of the newest chicks in there to encourage them. Congrats on the chicks!
