HATCH DAY (DAY 21) IS MONDAY NIGHT, FEB 15TH

Tonight will start day 18 and lockdown for our first HATCH EVER! I have taken the eggs out of the carton/holders and they are laying in the incubator. I am working on getting the humidity up, but it is very difficult because it is so dry outside (only like 18% right now outside). I have plugged up and filled up a vaporizor to add some moisture to the air in the house, and I think that should help, but I will have a better idea later today. any suggestions on the best way to keep the humidity up. we have had some big temp. changes in the past few days, I am guessing due to the chicks getting bigger and creating their own heat.

We started off day one with 21 eggs, candled and tossed out non-developers at day 14 and I candled one last time last night and we have 10 that are developing and moving inside the egg!!!!

If you feel you need more humidity, try adding a wet new/clean sponge, that should do the trick. Also if they are due on Sunday, shouldn't they have gone on lockdown yesterday?

no, day 18 will officially be around 8 or 9 tonight. they are due on the 15th, I need to change the title TYPO!

OOPS

OMG!! I CAN'T SLEEP!! we have 2 that have pipped already!!!! I can hear them peeping too!! I don't know if I will get any sleep. maybe if I set up the video camera, I won't feel like I am going to miss it (even though it could take hours or even a day)

LOL, that's how it goes for most of us, I know I never sleep in the last 3 days, or at least it seems that way.

GOOD LUCK!

hopefully you've gone to bed and you'll have little ones to greet you in the AM

WE HAVE A CHICKIE!!!!! the second one that pipped, pipped on the underside and was determined to get out! we set up our video camera and wired it to a tv in our room so we could keep an eye on them. and I woke up around 5:30 (after going to bed at 4) and the little guy was hatching out!! like at that moment it was. it is still drying off now and the first egg that pipped is making progress. I can't tell if anymore have pipped yet but only time with tell!! I will uploade pics in a little while

this is the first chickie hatched in our homemade incubator and in our first hatch ever!

notice the black stripe on the back of its head....thinking of naming it skunk
