Our goat gave birth to quads - updated pics pg 9

"Dawn Kay" That's cute! I like it! Some are so easy to name then others it takes a little longer to find something that "fits" their personalities.

As far as selling those babies...Yea we had a talk about that this week. We were making plans to breed my girls and talking about which buck will be best for each of them. These will be my first kids. Cindy was saying how special your first kids are and how hard it is to sell them so I decided that I would breed Sandi and Ellie first and skip Bella my oldest girl. Sandi and Ellie have the most potential for having nice quality kids that I would want to retain, also I want them to freshen in time for the May show that I plan on attending.

I know it is going to kill me when I have to sell my kids!

But I will have to do it. I unfortunately do not have room for 100 goats.

Cindy always says listen to me, don't do what I did...learn from my mistakes so I am trying to do that. But who am I kidding…If I had the room I am sure I would keep them all 100+ too!

We had one doe have triplets once that was alot of fun but, there was one slight problem though. You see My mom has this idea of a perfect goat; it is pure white, naturally polled, and has wattles. So anyway we had this "perfect" doe and my mom decided to get her bred and found a "perfect" buck and had her bred to him as we anxiously waited for the due date we found a book on livestock ( we are a dairy family) it stated that there can be a high instance of a certain birth defect when two "perfect" goats are bred together and that defect is hermorphaditism. When the kids were born we found we had a boy, a girl, and a boy-girl. The boy-girl had many problems and only lived about 2 months but it was a very interesting set of triplets to say the least.

Mama and her quads are still doing great. They spend all day out with the rest of the little herd, including the daddy, and spend the night in a nice heated tack room (or what used to be the tack room, then converted to playroom, now serving as my hatchery and incubator room and shipping room). All four babies are thriving. I'm giving them a bottle every few hours to help mama out with the feedings. Man can they eat. They are also nibbling on hay and brush now. Just cute as can be. Now when they see me they come running. Little One Spot doesn't get as much opportunity to nurse as the others (at least that's what I think) because she comes running and starts head butting the bottle, and me and will down an entire bottle if I let her. She's got one big appetite. I also restrain Confetti each night to be sure One Spot gets a chance to nurse and also that each of the others do as well, then I feed their nightly bottle and it's off to bed.

These pics were taken after tonights' feedings. After bottles, everyone gets fresh hay and cut brush to nibble till morning.

They all have beautiful blue eyes:

And Fetti, Jr. looks so much like her mama and seems to be her mama's favorite - or at least she's very well fed - first born's are always special:

They are so cute but glad you are having them! I've had my share of goats and want no part of them. However I would not have bred my girls if I knew of the work envolved but that is somthing they do not teach you much at 4H. I am glad I had the experience and I love my goat who she was a great companion for me and my horse.

I must admit those babies are cute!!!!!!!!!!! Keep those pictures coming!

You are so lucky and blessed! I had a pregnant doe and she wasn't progressing well at birthing, so I took her to the vet. The vet's assistant told me that the vet had found 3 and they were so twisted around in there. Later, she sugggested to him that she thought there might be another in there yet and after checking, the vet found a fourth! None of them made it. The momma ended up dying as a result of the trauma as well. I really miss her. She was awesome.

Congrats on your babies! I'm sure they'll learn how to share.

Oh dear, I'm so sorry. That story made me cry. At least you tried, and got her to the vet. Sometimes there's just nothing you can do.

Hey Monique...

How are your pretty babies doing? Did the girls recover from being disbudded? Or should I say did YOU recover from having your baby girls disbudded???

I hope they are all doing well!

Hi Mitzi - other than having life-long psychosis

- they are doing great. It was such a pleasure meeting you the other day and thanks so much for doing the dirty work of holding them while they got branded with a hot iron. Now they don't hold it against me and they still come running when they see me - of course the fact I'm carrying four bottles helps.

I'm just about to go out and give them their final night-cap so maybe I'll take a few new pictures so everyone can see my little alien babies.

Monique
