Our introduction to keeping chickens, the high's, the lows and pics of our journey.

Not a worry Fancy. The helmet mounts may be a little more solid that the straps. The one I got is like a head torch (lamp) which I thought would be better. Might be better on more flat stuff which I will get to test during the big race.

I had to rescue a lebanese cucumber today. Included an unplanned run and smooshed chicken poo between the toes.

My wife passed me a bag of lettuce leave "This is for the girls" So I take the bag, set up the hanging cage and tip the bag out into it. The girls are in a food frenzy and I see a little cucumber on top of the heap. I think "Oh the girls will like that when they find it" and off I wonder back to the house.

I get back in, gum boots off and casually report "Oh they are going to go nuts for the surprise you gave them" "what surprise?" "The little cucumber?" "I JUST BOUGHT THAT FOR DINNER! GO SAVE IT!"

Up I leap and off I go barefoot down into the run, I stand of a fresh one but luckily found the cucumber still on top of the now much smaller pile.

I don't know exactly why, but I got the impression I was lucky to save it after giving it to them in the first place or I would have been in trouble lol

It didn't even have one beak mark in it :D

Cucumbers work in curry, or in tzatziki. Otherwise I'm one of those people who think cucumber is 98% water and 2% bad taste.

Ben, good job saving your cucumber though. You are certainly a hero to all cucumberkind.

Try Cucumber drink... had it at an Aztec restaurant... Its kind of milky looking and very slightly sweet with a hint of lime. I am still searching for the recipe. But its incredibly refreshing in the summer.

Hi Deb , sounds refreshing. Though I'm not sure what an ' English ' cucumber is.

In the grocery store they will be about half again longer than a regular cucumber and the outside will almost be ribbed. They have the reputation for being very mild and Less "Burp" causing. Me I have no issues with the regular kind you can get for cheap. I would use those.

Oh, so that would be what we call ' continental cues ', I prefer the little Lebanese ones, skin and all.
