Our introduction to keeping chickens, the high's, the lows and pics of our journey.

Yes, crazy times indeed.

I spent a large chunk of time glued to the TV recently, I am not normally so interested by for some reason I had this feeling of needing to know what was happening.

In chicken news, we have 4 broodies, which has devistated the egg count, but all is well in the flock. Tonight I put the chick on a roost with mum in the main flock. I have been letting them sleep in the rooster box and range during the day. Then a few days ago I let them spend the day with the main flock. Tonight is their first night together.

Still confident it's a little roo, but we will let him grow a bit longer to be 100% certain.

We don't have any eggs under the 4 broodies, which all seem pretty determined. Both Ginger (cochin) and Tas (Coro cross wylkie) are sitting, along with second timer Sal (Salmon Fav) and third time for Rosie (RIR)

Just as egg sales were sky rocketing following a local 'free range' company being exposed as frauds our egg count pretty much halves!

Oh well.

In the running world, Alicia is competing in her first Ultra Marathon this weekend which is exciting. My training has slowed and I don't think I will be very competitive this race. The training starts to for 100km ANZAC Challenge race in April.

In brother news, he moved out today, I spent the day helping him get set up with his girlfriend. Fingers crossed he makes the most of the head start he has had. Honestly though, after 6 months I am happy to have my home back to 'us' if you know what I mean.

Felix, I got a phone pic of the chick the other day after you asked, but I forgot to post it, my phone plays up posting direct.

Ben, that's okay. We just went into egg labor here last night, so I'll get to follow our own chicks soon. I haven't seen the chicks yet, the lesbian couple sitting on them is keeping them tightly tucked in under themselves. I'll try to get a peek in the evening when we put in some water and food for the chicks.

Nice to hear things are looking up for your brother.

Good luck to Alicia with her run, hope she doesn't exhaust herself too early. I think it's okay for you to let your body rest a bit in between too.

Hope you get your egg production up and running soon. Have you tried a broody box? I had limited success with the ice packs in the summer too.

Very cool Felix, now you get to see some very cool instincts come to play. Even just hatching the eggs is cool, but as they wonder the place with their chicks you get to hear the calls and watch the chicks play hide and seek in mums ample feathers.

Just watch out for the post broody poop....oh man they can be nasty!

Congratulations.
