Our introduction to keeping chickens, the high's, the lows and pics of our journey.

Ben... you NEED a silkie.. No, you need two. My silkie hen that is 4... she's a right terror. Her daughter is even worse. LOL BUT they are so dang funny to watch. As my friend HyVal says, they look like little Russian ladies in hats. LOL

Dogs... Well, I have two. Rotten Ruby and Argus McFartgus. I had never had small dogs before these two. Always bigger dogs, mastif or bully breeds. OH, and there was Bere... Bere was a really freaked up mix. Great Pyr and Brit. He was my baby. Some butt hat stole him from me when I was 8 months prego. Left my pit bull, but stole my mutt. I will post pics of him. He was with out a doubt the best mutt dog ever. Just beautiful...

When I first started out with chickens here at inlet farm, I had gold laced Wyandotte and someone gave me 2x silkie Roos. I felt sorry for the boys so naturally I found them some girls. An older couple were in my garden feeding them and the lady commented on how clean and " fancy " my chooks were and she said " my husband and I refer to you as the " fancychooklady " and so that was how it began.
I now have " wilkies "
1000

Ben you probably shouldn't get a silkie, cause Alicia will fall in love with them.
PS your eggs are on the way. May the gods be with Aus post. :fl

The Golden comet egg is in top left corner, in a carton of eggs from the new EE candy bar girls!

We also worked all day on building a run for the chickens!

This is rebar panels that they normally use in cement floors.....

Gate will go in the middle here... and we will probably re-do the right side to match the left.

Yay. :weee

First egg - hooray! I still have a hen that's holding out too, my 29wk old wheaten marans. She never (ever) goes outside the coop though so she doesn't get any sunlight except what comes through the window. I take her outside and she will follow me around but as soon as another chicken comes near , she runs for the safety of her roost. She's afraid of chickens.
All my oldest girls (14-20 mo) are molting and look awful. This is their first full molt and my first time seeing it. Not pretty.

NICE!!!! I could totally see Alicia falling for one of those :D Thanks for getting King Henry's special delivery underway, can't wait to see them.
That would make a nice mix. Mine is white silkie roo x silver penciled Wyandotte .
This
+ this
= this

We do have two SPW, but no white silkie roo's. Does that cross breed true for you?

Some great work there, by both pullet and family. Congrats you her first egg, nice shade too.

I had a feeling Marans took some time, ours will see plenty of sun!

I will be back for more later.
