Seriously considering loosing some of it in favour of another garden bed for veggies and some fruit trees. SOmeone was telling me about Fruit Salad tree's which sound interesting, maybe a Mango or Mulberry tree too.

DH and I rented a house many years ago with a large Mulberry tree. The fruit was so yummy! But the mess the birds made was just awful!!

Be careful with this tree, the wild birds will have purple poo stain all over everything after eating the berries!

WIse words. We had one in a place when we were young and renting, I never noticed an issue, but now you mention it it seems plain as day we would have that problem here. Lots of wild birds.

Yep I'd think twice about the mulberry. Nothing more annoying than washing your clothes twice. What about a nectarine or plum tree. Apple trees are good value too. If I were in Perth I would definitely have a mango. When we lived in Sydney we used to buy a box of mango 's for $7 at park lea markets. Here in tassie $7 will get you 2.

I might ave to stick to raiding other peoples while out on my training runs hahahaha I may or may not happen to pass by some intentionally when they are in season.

We pay premium for Mango's here too, not uncommon to see them for 2-3 each which is funny as I have read they grow pretty well in our climate. I don't like them, but Alicia loves them and so do the kids.

Mango is great - just make sure nobody is allergic to the sap from the tree. It can be nasty. I buy 10Kg of mango at a stall on Day1 of my trips to the Phils.

I have been places where like Darwin and some bits of Brisbane where locals think it's laughable to pay for them, let alone the prices we pay [THUD...another one hits the ground!]

I love the fruit, half the fun is finding the perfect one. I now not only fear the mess the birds would make, but also what two young boys would do with them lol.

They say never to plant a mulberry near a pathway, driveway or washing line. When we lived at floreat park our 80 year old neighbor had the loveliest mango trees.

Mulberries.... I have great memories of the first time I had mulberries... I also remember that I ate so many that I didn't need dinner that night, and we ran out of poopoo paper the next day... LOL. I can't pass a mullberry tree now with out snagging a handful, and I am also smart enough now not to eat until my belly is full. Ah... what a difference 30 years can make in the decision making process...

As for the green grass... I don't expect to see that again for many a month... It's too cold here. I think I need to move...

We planted a couple of mulberry trees here last year. The fruit is exquisite and I can't wait! Of course, the trees are no where near any area that we don't want to be stained purple during the fruiting season!

Still have not settled on what to plant.

I would really like two of these fruit salad trees, one stone fruit and one citrus and a mango tree. Only problem is the fruit salad trees cost a packet! $30 more for each fruit (up to 6 per tree)....pondering if I can do my own grafting.

Everyone else is doing well, just got home from buying more feed. The older chicks are now on grower feed while the Coro's nd Rocks are still on chick. I am looking forward to everyone being on one feed again, getting hard to keep everyone ranging without getting at each others feeds.

Trying to spend human time with as many of them as possible to keep them used to us, I have a couple of favorites but have found the Wellie's to be most brave, while both the Fav's enjoy a bit of attention. The Maran's seem least interested in coming close...unless they think they can make off with some leg hair.

That's so funny~

I have a Marans cockerel that will always let me know if I missed any spots shaving my legs. He's actually taken a few chunks of skin while trying to "help" me out. He's not mean at all, just very interested in anything that might possibly be food.

My gang are hanging around just waiting for me to appear . They run straight in under my feet and try to trip me up. Next week I'm going to put them in a grow out pen. I don't think they will be very happy with me cause I don't think they think that they are chickens. It is time to rake the mulch back on to the garden beds and for my garden to look presentable again. As much as I love to see them all come running up to the car door when I pull up, I am over the poop.
