Our introduction to keeping chickens, the high's, the lows and pics of our journey.

Maybe Rosie was just going through some birthday blues :). Happy belated birthday!
Ours don't seem to notice noises either from tools, snowblowers, tractors, and barely look up for the snowmobiles, but if a harmless seagull flies over they alert and run for cover.

Lol, mine are a little on edge after the goss hawk, yesterday a flock of white cockatoo landed in and my chooks ran for cover. So funny 2 missed the door and bounced off the wire. :lau

We only have one girl left and we are keeping her.

There are a couple of places local to try, and a few more a bit further out so it depends on where she is.

Other than the usual, gumtree and chooknet sites, I would look at possible Henley Brook Chooks (on FB), but I did hear reports that her POL pullets are not exactly on the cheap side.

CB and CG on here are Australorp breeders, and have some STUNNING stock, but I am not sure what they sell for or even if they have much on the market at the moment. He also knows another breeder a bit further out called Renise who has some great stock. @CB and CG

Also depending on what age she wants, you could try Katts Cluckers (also on FB) as she has quite reasonably priced birds of mixed breeds and mixed ages. We got our Aussie eggs from her. She sells her day olds for $8-10 and they go up closer to POL.

If you are not on FB, I can get you some links or phone numbers to those mentioned. I am sure there are heaps more around too, I have not been on chooknet for a while to check out what's out. Also not sure who has been hatching over the summer months.

Hope that helps, Cheers Ben

EDIT, I was just checking out chooknet. There is another lady called Helen that is selling stock in Oakford, many breeds. We have bought from her before and they were pretty good. Henley Brook Chooks has 'Lorps for sale, her POL are $60, Helen (Chickenopolis) are $30!

I am having a really hard time finding any salmon Faverolles locally. The only person I found close that has any had a trio and her roo didn't make it through the winter. Are the hatchery stock decent birds? I hate buying from a hatchery but it may be my only option.

Not quite local for you but in Mississippi there's a place called Southern Farm Hatchery that has salmon favs. I ordered eggs from them a couple years ago. Due to shipping, only one hatched. She was the reason I came to love this breed so much. Wonderful personality and cute as could be - fluffy white beard, good coloring. Not show quality I guess, but what a sweetie. Maybe I was lucky. I've read that U.S. hatcheries usually don't produce chicks with that trademark faverolles personality.

I have heard they are really sweet birds. I don't really care about show quality. I just love the beards and m uffs and have heard lots of positives on their personalities.

This was mine from the hatchery in MS -

she certainly had personality. Check out the faverolles thread on here - maybe you'll find someone closer to you.
