Our Little Coop In Progress!

Soon2BChixMom, here’s some advice for building your coop... make it better than mine.
Now come on...don't be hard on yourself. It'll look great when you are finished. We ALL build a less than perfect coop starting off. I think for starters you've done a good job. Just a few tweaks and it'll be perfect for your flock.

Might think about putting a solid roof on the run or it may be unusable in winter...
....would also provide some shade in summer.

Thanks guys... I think it’ll be good once it’s done! I’m adding a roof onto the run, yes. More for protection from snow and rain than from sun. The coop is under a pine tree!

Consider something like this. Louvered vent, metal, surface mount. You will not need to use hardware cloth. This will also keep rain out since you do not have an overhang on the roof . I suggest to mount one on each side high up. On the front side of coop where the pop door is located, maybe try to fashion a window on the left side. Get a 1/4 inch thick piece of Plexiglass, and screw it over an opening. Caulk, and it will be waterproof.

Don't be discouraged, just do your best. :hugs

I think you're doing a good job. Do what Cavemanrich said with the louvered vents, they aren't expensive, and cut a window for it. Something like that might work for your window. https://www.amazon.com/Shed-Windows-White-Flush-Safety/dp/B004WGJ1OE.

I see that you're in BC...depending how much snow you get you might look at covering the run, or just using a tarp.
