Our Little Coop In Progress!

If the tarp is wide enough, if you cant it at an angle you won't have snow to lift. I learned that covering a boat.
SMH .....you southerners...sigh
Ever had a foot, or more, of wet snow, multiple times per season, to deal with?
Yes, if you can rig tarp to be at sharp angle and be taut and stay taut at that angle....
.....
it might shed the snow fall.
But it's a real bear to have it fail at 6am when it's 12°F with 20mph winds.

Hey, sorry for the late reply, but thanks for all of your comments! We will look into the vent for the sides, and also into the window. We do have at least 5 weeks to do this so it's totally manageable! You've explained everything really nicely!

As for the roof, we get a lot of snow and its wet, so a tarp doesn't work. We have enough plywood left over to do about half of the run, and it's located under two giant pines, so they block sun and snow pretty good...

Thanks for all of your great comments and advice.

Will update with pictures at a later point!

Good day to you all and enjoy your chickens!!!!

For ventilation we will probably be cutting some holes in the wall, or figuring out another way to make it work, like by attacking one of those premade vent thingies over top of a hole so we don’t need to bother with hardware cloth... or would you do the hardware cloth cover because it lets in light?

Coming in late on this but if you're using a premade vent with small opening the hardware cloth isn't as necessary, if you're doing windows that can open you'd definitely want to put it over or under those. You can still use hardware cloth on vents (my shed-coop in progress has 1/4" hardware cloth on the inside of the floor vents and gable vent) but general rule of thumb is any opening greater than 1/2" should be covered with some sort of wire mesh.

Great, thanks rosemarythyme! We probably won't open the window, we'll just have it in the wall to let in light, we'll leave the ventilation to do the airing out. Yeah I was thinking we would either do the premade vent or just do our own with hardware cloth cover... probably just the premade vent though. I'm assuming we would screw the vents on, but for the plexiglass window, would we silicone it on? Screw it on? A combination of? Thanks all! :woot:ya:wee:lol: I'm feeling great again!!!!!!
