I've been watching & have been trying to figure out who's the worst! There are probably 5 or 6, that go after them, there are 2 that seem to be the biggest instigators, but I think the others would keep picking, too many for the tote & I don't have enough lamps to keep them in separate totes. If I did, that's what I would do! We are working on the coop right now, so hopefully by tomorrow evening I can move them out, maybe even tonight! That's a great idea though. Thank you so much!

I just noticed the chicks picking at the new feathers of one particular chick. they have made it bleed! any way to stop this without separation? Poor baby!

This is so sad! I never had any of mine do that... I wonder why they started that .... I got four chicks last year and one of them just kept harassing my little speckled Sussex so I separated “him”.. and my SS wasn’t thriving because of it.... I was certain he was a roo and he was only a few weeks old... so I decided to rehome him and sure enough.. I was right... Katie sent me this pic of him all grown up.. he was an EE.. he turned out gorgeous...

He's beautiful! I think they are growing out of their brooder, even though it looks like they have plenty of room or they just need more to occupy their time! It's funny, one of the smallest chicks seems to be ruling the roost, she goes around pecking everybody! Lol!

There's no way we can get the coop closed up tonight! Hopefully they can behave themselves until it's ready! I'm going to go out first thing tomorrow and give it a thorough cleaning! I wanted to paint the inside, but I don't know if it will dry out quickly enough after washing it, maybe if I stick a heater in there! I'm going to try something tomorrow! After I get the coop cleaned, I'm going to leave the red light on that I use over night and see if that will make those wounded areas less noticeable, it might be wishful thinking, but I think it's worth a try! Here is as far as we got on the nesting box tonight! Just not enough hours when my husband gets home from a 10 hour work day!

I went ahead and placed the chicks back into the brooder! There was a bit of picking, but nothing like yesterday! I do believe the red light is making a big difference. One thing to note that I forgot to share is that the picked on chicks are 2 Buff Orpingtons and my Salmon Faverolle. They are all light colored, so the wounds really stand out! I also gave them some warm mash in 2 small bowls, oh my goodness have they been enjoying it! They would be rolly-polly chicks if I fed them that every day!

I will be heading out to clean up the coop and get it ready for paint, but I plan on coming back in to check on them every 15 minutes or so!
