Our Mixed Flock Journey!

In the midst of sadness can come great joy! I am officially a grandma! Our firstborn grandson arrived today! 💞 💞 💞 He weighed 10lbs 8oz - 22.5" long, he & mommy are doing great! I don't know when it will be safe for us to meet him, I am longing for that day! My son & his wife don't want his picture on the internet & I agree 100%...but it's so hard not show him off!
Aaawww, congratulations! I know you must be thrilled!! Too bad times are the way they are right now.. but hopefully it won’t last too long... and wow that’s a big baby! I also agree about the pics...

Thank you, we are over the top thrilled! We will get to see him soon, right now I just have to be satisfied with pictures! The doctor was estimating that he was 11lb 13 ounces, that's like having a 1 month old! They decided to do a c-section for his and his mommy's well being! Love him so much and feeling truly blessed! 💞 💞 💞

I would love to have a grandbaby but, son & his girlfriend are in no hurry.
We've waited a long time! His daddy is my youngest son and he will be 30 this year! We didn't even know if they could have children, because my son had cancer and went through some brutal treatments. Declan is our little miracle baby! Hope you get to experience it soon, I can't even describe how much love I have for this little man already! 💞 💞 💞

My husband works 4/10's, so we have 3 day weekends and when we have yard work to do they are long weekends, especially since the golf course is closed! Anyway I want to share a few pictures of what we are doing to expand our chicken pen! We want them to have a big area to free range, but want to try to keep them safe from dogs, coyotes & any other predators! Yesterday we removed some low fencing that we put in, in the early 90's to keep the rabbits from eating our newly planted tree's! On a side note, when we bought this property it was all sand, sagebrush and rocks! My husband and I cleared the land and put in everything we have! We also physically built our house, we did not contract it out...I think we qualify as homesteaders! ;) It has been a labor of love, but man has it been physical! I'm 55 and my husband is 61, it's not as easy as it used to be, but we can still get things done!

First picture is an overview of the garden, chicken & rabbit area! The new chicken pen will run from the existing pen clear to the left and to the fence at the back of the treeline. We will be adding more fencing to make it taller!

We planted Blackberries many years ago, needless to say they got a little out of control! My husband mowed them down and then we went through and did some burning!

Several years ago our neighbor let a fire get out of control and it burned a bunch of our tree's! Today we spent time cutting out branches and we removed a couple of the tree's, still have more to do! We also cut out branches that have grown over the fence! This is one of the areas that we will be adding new fencing to make it taller! You can see the chicken pen on the right! We will be attaching the new fencing to the tallest portion of the existing pen!

We had plenty of branches and tree trunks to keep this fire burning all day long!

A view looking from the chicken coop to the edge of our property! You can just see the existing fence that we will be tying into, in the opening of the tree's! Things are kind of messy right now, but it will be cleaned up and it will look so much nicer! You can also see the rabbit hutch my husband built for our kids! It will house the 2 does and he will build another hutch for the buck! This is not its permanent location, it will be inside of the new chicken pen! I told him it needs to be taller, we'll see if he can do anything about that!:D

I will be so happy when this project is done, but as my husband would tell you, I say that about every project😂 and I've lost count of how many we've done! 🙂

Pictures of my babies today! I haven't been able to spend much time with them the last couple of days, so they have been kind of flighty!

Just doing their thing!

This is so nice! I wish I had more property to do things like this! We have an acre.. but I am blessed and thankful to have that.. as it is waaaay more than I had before! It holds our house, pump shed, chicken coop/run and yard, my moms house with small shed, another shed in back, giant fire pit, a loooong driveway.. plus hubby is building a shop in back.. but surprisingly it is very spacious and lots more room to put more things.. like a pool ;).... if I had more room then we’d have horses..

We have 5 acres, but only have about 1.5-2 acres developed! The rest is sand and sagebrush! It's amazing how much you can fit on 1 acre! I had a horse -CB, but I had to sell him in 2008! I had sepsis and after that, I just didn't have the strength to take care of him! My husband was doing it for me and would have continued, he's the best, but the horse was mine and my husband had enough other things going on! I also had a 75g saltwater fish tank that I decided to give to a friend...same scenario as the horse! Some pictures below! We lost our yellow lab, Mr Drake, lovingly known as Drakers 💞 a couple of years ago, he was 14...miss him still! I also miss my horse! The barn is now full of our son's car parts, our lawn mower....you get the idea! I forgot how great it looked until I saw these pictures again! A pool picture and a picture of my beautiful Mr Bentley...we lost him a couple of months ago to kidney failure, still cry about it sometimes! He's sitting on the kitty wash station, which is disguised as a towel rack...lol!💞

After 25+ years, I finally talked my husband into an above ground pool! I got a fantastic deal on it, less than $500! That being said the steps cost the same. My husband built me a solar cover reel! I hope you can get one and not have to wait as long as I did...my kids "oh sure, now that we've all moved out you get a pool!"...lol
