My husband and I had to go to town today and we arrived home at the time the chicks would be heading into the coop for the night! As I was getting ready to make my rounds checking on the animals and getting Willow branches for the rabbits to munch on over night...I started to hear some very loud peeping...afraid that something was wrong, I headed straight out to the chicken pen...as I approach I can see that the chicks are all on the ramp that leads to the coop crying. I thought that maybe the doorway was blocked, so I open the main door to discover that the light is not on and they didn't want to go in as soon as I turned the light on they entered...they were afraid of the dark... :gig

I went back and checked all 61 pages to look for pix of your actual coop. As I remembered, there are no extra windows to let in daylight.. Chickens are quite blind in the dark , and don't want to enter a dark area. Just wondering if you considered putting a window into the entry door. That would give enough light inside at dusk , for chickens to see where to go.

My husband & I were just talking about doing that earlier today, but for added airflow, I didn't think about them needing light, thank you. I didn't have this issue with my Banty's, but I never had a light on in the evening. We were wondering why these chicks went to bed so much later in the day, just like Motel 6, I kept the light on for them...😂

So, we talked about adding light & ventilation today. We are going to add a gable vent on the front & back of the coop. For light, Dale is thinking of putting a window to the left & right side of the door! It will probably be awhile before we can it, we have several other projects that we need to finish first! So, for now, I'll leave the light on for them!
