Our Mixed Flock Journey!

When I lived in Key West, car parking was always a problem. I was thinking of getting a scooter (they're everywhere down there), but after DH pointed out all the scooter accidents I changed my mind. I kind of like keeping myself in one piece!
The highways are much busier now than they were back then, so I would have to agree.

My girls were busy while we were gone! My son said he brought in 5-7 eggs every day! I've show cased a couple of the larger ones and then a shot of the full 3 dozen! I just took 18 to my daughter & left 5-6 home and my son said he ate few! My friends will be happy...lol!

On another note...we finally figured out how my hen has been escaping, she can fit through the fencing...she's the only one that can...I hope she grows quickly so that she can't do that anymore. I feel bad that I clipped her wings as she won't be able to escape anything that comes after her. I need to figure out how to block it off, but there is a lot that she can go through and I just don't think my husband will let me buy more wire for one chicken, we spent an awful lot on the improvements we did this year! :(

So, we had some left over fencing that we put in to keep rabbits from eating the tree's in our treeline...many years ago! We pulled it out when we added the free range pen. My husband was going to use it for something, but he hasn't yet...so I commandeered it! He didn't mind. This is just a small section, but it's a start. We have some of the same fencing that we used as tomato cages, so I will also be using those to add to the fence to keep that little stinker in. I was afraid of something like this, but my husband didn't seem to think there would be any problems...now we know differently! :)

Wow! So she squeezes through the bigger squares!?

How did Lil Roo do with your son this time? And are your roos still being good boys? How old are they? I wonder about TRUMP.. if he’ll stay good :fl
Lots of eggs are the best!! ❤

Yep, that's what she does...slips right through! :barnie

They are all right around 5 months old now! I don't have any issues with them, but I was showing my husband the fencing I put in and Little Roo started to come up behind him, it looked like he was going for him, so I shooed him away! I don't think my son had to go in the pen this time. All of the eggs were in the nesting boxes and those are on the outside of the coop, which is really nice! We will be thinning out our roosters in the next couple of weeks! I just have to decide which ones! I will be getting rid of the 2 Silkies & 1 or 2 of the remaining 4. I hope Trump will continue to be a good roo for you too! 💞

I agree...I'm so happy to have a lot of eggs now...it will be nice to share them with my friends!:)

Well I just got home from town! When I was putting that old fencing in yesterday, I scratched my leg, it was so dirty & rusty that I decided I'd better get a tetanus shot! I don't know when I last had one and have been thinking that I should get one, so this pushed me into it...better to be safe than sorry!

The fencing that I installed yesterday seems to have done the trick, she was in the pen with everyone else when I got home.

I noticed an egg laying on the floor of the coop and then realized that there were a bunch in the corner, where it's hard to see! I had to remove the metal grate we put in for ventilation so that I could get in there. I found 12 eggs! lol

I'm not going to post all of my eggs, but I am going to spotlight the largest ones and a smaller one for reference! One of my Marans laid a 71g egg that is a jumbo...so cool!
