Our poultry guard cat came back after little over 2 weeks...

I'm not sure if this is appropriate by any standards, so please remove the post if it's not without notice.

Also, this is not something I would normally do at all, but I promised my distraught 6 year old daughter that I would do everything in my power to help her out, so this is one way I suppose.

We have used cats to protect our flock from neighborhood feline and other wild creatures ever since we started caring for poultry, and it works beautifully. I'm sure we're not alone in doing so. Our previous guard passed away from cancer not so long ago so we replaced our faithful protector with a new rescue (she approaching her first birthday).

Sadly, she did not come home one day which is very unusual (she goes in and out of the house at will throughout the day, to either roam around with the chickens, sit on her poultry guard post, or simply uproot half the garden just because she can ). After a week of looking for her and asking people in the neighborhood to keep an eye out, we pretty much gave up of ever seeing her again. 2 weeks later, we heard a faint sound from the other side of the fence, and there she was!
She could apparently no longer walk, so after giving her fresh water and food (which she consumed faster than you can say 'cat'), we rushed her to the emergency room where x-rays were taken.

In other words, she had spent over a week, crawling slowly but steady without food and water, all the way back to our property. I'm pretty sure that if she was not as young and healthy as she is, the outcome would be different. It's really incredible what animals can do.

Turns out, she's got dislocated patellas, indicative with someone grabbing her blacklegs and forcefully thrown her or shaking her, or something to that effect. No external trauma, so no car hit or getting stuck somewhere.

Now my daughter is trying her darnest to come up with the finances for the surgery by making things to sell and invite neighbors/walkers to museums and/or nature walks she creates in the front yard and/or community parks, and charging entry fee. Ahh bless her heart, and the people's heart for gladly paying the entry fee for a personal tour.
Again, I promised her to help in whatever way I can...hence this. If inappropriate, please remove the post.

That's so great that your cat came home and it's incredible that she did that I will cross my fingers and hope she gets better, unfortunately I cant fund youbut I really hope someone can!
I think it's perfectly fine that you posted this

Some times there are no outer signs of a hit by car. At the Animal Hospital i used to work at we had dozens of these things happen.
Sorry this happened to you and your daughter is so distraught.

I figured I'd share a very small update.
She is now thankfully able to go to the litter box by herself without major misshaps. While she does no longer collapse out of pain after going potty, she still have major issues completing #2 without getting it on herself.l (she sits down while scratching/covering, and then usually in what she left behind). But I prefer the occasional bath over hovering over her to be there when in need. However, I doubt she agrees. In other words, she's off painkillers. I'd like her to go through the surgery though....
No final words from the vets as of yet on whether we can do just one leg or not.
