Oh Moogie, it turned out so wonderful! (I'm the other gal with a crate coop.) I absolutely love yours!! I love the roof, what a great idea! So glad it turned out nice for you! Hope your chickens enjoy!

Actually, my husband and I just looked at your windows and we both think you mistakenly installed them upside down. That slope piece you have the hinge attached to actually goes at the bottom of the window. It was originally designed like that to help the water drain away from the window. We have the same windows and hinges on our coop hung right side up and they open out only slightly. We did add a little would piece to each window to help them stay closed all the way when we want them closed all the way.

open I have several windows like that.
I was going to use 2 crates to make my 8x8 coop but they were already gone off craig's list and I couldn't find any more soo..... I used pallets and my roof is sloped to match my run. Your roof is beautiful though, I used the exact same windows and the problem is that little triangle piece at the top. It was not removable on mine so I just use a hook and eye to close mine with .
Moogie love your coop and the chunnel - your girls will really enjoy it. Great job.

For instance When you grab a rectangular piece of wood free to hang by a corner its going to want to hang through the center of gravity. Take a rectangular piece of cardboard and poke a hole in the corner and dangle it see how it hangs. The only way to make it hang straight down is to put the hole exactly in the middle of the short edge. But I wouldn't worry about it just latch the window when you don't want air circulating.

We had to turn the windows upside down because the wood on the bottom edge was too narrow to accommodate the hinges. Argh! We may end up replacing those with real window hinges.
I may have to wait a while to spring that on my DH...
