Unfortunately it is how the world turns, there are awesome deals to be had in the real estate market right now, I would be buying if I could at the historic low interest rates and the prices of houses! I am in the same boat, our house is for sale, but when buyers have 500 to choose from in our price range and builders are desperate guess what they are all buying....NEW houses for less than what I can sell mine for, but I am not bitter it's just how it goes sometimes

There is nothing worse than being robbed. About a year ago, our house was broken into. My husband came home from work at about 11 am to get something he left there. The door was standing wide open and the jamb was tore to pieces from being pryed with a crowbar. They stole our TV, a .270 deer rifle, my step sons guns (4 total) and some cash. Thankfully the pistol was hidden so they didn't get that or else I wouldn't have been able to sleep at night. Although those things were all replaceable and have been replaced with better (the boys all got new shotguns for Christmas!) the feeling of being violated is horrible!!!

Due to the economy & drug use, the crime rate is increasing when it comes to thefts of this nature. Unfortunately, it's a vicious cycle--drug addicts who dont have a job (!) are stealing to support their habit. And then, as someone else said, it's close to Christmas & the economy is so bad that theives are stealing everything not nailed down to sell & buy their kids stuff or stealing it & selling it to others at a far cheaper price that its worth.

Around here people are stealing anything they can sell for scrap metal. Farmers have to keep their farm machinery under lock and key. I remember when we would leave our tractor and implements where ever we were working with no fear someone would take them.My dad had some alumium and various lawn mower parts stolen, and the garage next door lost a fortune in stolen car parts and batteries.

Alarm is good but you might want to consider some cameras, too. Sorry about the stealing, that's horrible.

yes things are getting worse.i live in a small town in viginia.my husband and i own and run a gun and pawn shop.we have people coming in and get daily calls on wether we have bought or pawned items that have been stolen.all our pawn items go to the local sheriffs office and are run through a data base to check if they are stolen or involved in a crime.people are pawning and selling everything that they have just stay a float.times are very tough.and i don't
see it getting any better any time soon.

We had the cooper problem really bad out here with vacant houses and construction sites. Im sure its still a problem, just dont hear about it as much. When I went home to PA in August there was a guy selling rims at his house. He had them chained to the electric pole in the front of his yard next to the road. I remember seeing them when I first got home and told my mom I can't believe they were sitting there and some one hasnt stolen them. They were there my entire 2 weeks at home. I think I am so use to the city life and I don't trust hardly any one!

I couldn't imagine if my house was burgularized. I would feel completely "used" so to speak. My house would never feel the same. (LOVE MY FEATHER BABIES) I am glad to hear your family was able to replace everything and move forward. That has to take a lot.
