outdoor nestboxes.

So a feed store I went to had three chickens in a large old chicken coop. They used them for hatching chicks. There nestboxes where outside in the chicken run though, not inside the coop. Is putting some nestboxes outside In the run a good idea? I put two outside In the run with my 13 week old pullets and left the rest inside the coop so if they do prefer laying outside when they start laying they will know where they are. What do you chicken owners think?

-really contemplated this as well due to the summer heat. The coop is very, very well ventilated but it still is scorching hot in there when a couple of my afternoon laying hens go to the nest boxes. -thought about having one or two open-air/outdoor nesting boxes in the run......or just getting an evaporative cooler for the coop.

I would be very interested, as well, to know how the outdoor boxes work for folks.
