I have 3 Rabbits in wooden hutches they have room to run and stretch out and an inclosed bed with straw to protect them from the cold. I have 2 new ones in cages under my shed with heat lights on them and a 5 week old baby in my kitchen in a cage.
As far as spending time with them i see them twice a day when i feed them and give them treats.
I know they recognize me as the person who raised them and appear to be happy to see me when i feed them. I think tho they are looking more at the treat in my hand than me.
They don't like to be held like they did when they were young and will scratch me and growl when i cut their nails. my new baby gets lots of attention being inside and who can keep their hands off such cuteness
As far as keeping rabbits together in my experience i've had and bred rabbits for 5 years now and they don't get along.
I'm amazed when i hear people talk of keeping males and females together don't they realize the male will constantly mate with the female
I consider that animal abuse
I had a lady beg me to take in 2 mini rex does said she had them a year and no longer wanted them. She told me they were in her apartment in a 3x3 rabbit cage i could have cage and all.
I agreed to take them she brought them to my house i noticed first one was smaller than the other. Then i noticed one was real bouncy and mean growling thru the cage at me. The smaller one cowered in the corner i found this odd behavior.
Until i found out why this small female was so afraid of the bigger female she was abuseing her.
I witnessed this female
mount the smaller one for 30 minutes continusly before i removed her.
When i stuck my hand in the cage to remove the little female the big one jumped on my arm and bit me.
I had 3 bite marks on my hand and was bleeding before i could get the little one out.
The bigger one was given to a friend and he made stew out of her. I kept the smaller one and she did get a little less shy i gave her to another friend as a pet.
Just Can't Imagine being abused like that and how long and how frequent had it been
